olimpinė sporto šaka statusas T sritis Kūno kultūra ir sportas apibrėžtis TOK pripažinta sporto šaka, kurios varžybos gali būti olimpinių žaidynių programoje. Pagrindiniai reikalavimai, kad TOK pripažintų sporto šaką olimpine, šie: turėti TOK pripažintą tarptautinę federaciją, standartinę sporto įrangą ir inventorių, visiems sportininkams sudaryti vienodas sąlygas visapusiškai gerinti fizinį ir taktinį parengtumą, varžytis, turėti objektyvius kriterijus sportininko (komandos) pasiektiems rezultatams, pranašumui vertinti. Be to, atsižvelgiama į sporto šakos populiarumą: vasaros sporto šakos turi būti populiarios ne mažiau kaip 4 žemynų 75 šalyse (vyrų) ir ne mažiau kaip 3 žemynų 40 šalių (moterų); žiemos sporto šakos –ne mažiau kaip 3 žemynų 25 šalyse (moterų ir vyrų). atitikmenys: angl.
